Simple habits for everyday care

Happy African couple taking a relaxed walk together in a green park

Enjoy familiar foods in balanced portions

Pair moderate portions of banku, fufu, kenkey or waakye with plenty of vegetables and fish. Grilled fish, vegetables and a light soup are useful meal options. Plan portions and meal timing around your prescribed treatment.

Choose drinks and fruit thoughtfully

Choose water instead of sugary soft drinks and reduce added sugar in tea coffee. Enjoy whole fruit such as pawpaw, guava or oranges in portions that fit your meal plan; avocado can also be part of balanced meals.

Make time to move and rest

Build up to a comfortable 20 to 30 minute walk, including after a meal if it suits you. Agree an activity plan with your care team, especially if your medicines can cause low blood sugar. Keep a regular sleep routine and make time to relax.
